Understanding Questions: Using Your Own Words
Here are example passages with questions aimed at improving your ability to answer questions using your own words.
Remember try to explain an idea rather than actually translating word for word.
Remember there are some words which you will not be expected to change. Proper nouns and common nouns with no obvious alternatives (‘Edinburgh’, ‘China’, ‘Claire’, ‘flamingo’, ‘mortgage’, ‘brakes’) need to stay as they are. Verbs, adverbs, adjectives and figures of speech will need to be rephrased.
